New season pecans

Pecan season is upon us. Again. I must admit to a tiny bit of dread. Last season (our first) I learnt quite a few things the hard way.

1. Pecan husks stain your hands a very lovely henna shade of brown. It doesn't come off with anything but time. And quite a bit of that.

Lesson = don't play with husks with bare hands.

2. Picking up pecans by hand, even if only from 20 trees, can cause injury.

Lesson = pecans harvesters are the way to go. These are great.

3. Hand shelling of pecans is fun for the first few kilos. Then it is not.

Lesson = we need a pecan desheller
